Friday Fun :)

Well hello

Since becoming more aware of some of the amazing Plus Size bloggers, it has made me think about my own body and how I feel about clothes. They have made me feel better about myself and made me realise I may not be 'perfect' but I am a pretty perfect version of me.... So I have been asking myself a few questions over the last few weeks....
why don't I wear what I want, instead what I think I should wear?
why should I hide my body?
why do I care what other people think?

Well, now I want to ask questions to the brilliant bloggers out there :)

Starting next Friday, I will be starting my 'Five Question Friday' where I will be featuring one of the lovely blogging ladies, and asking them 5 questions. They will be questions on fashion, style, trends, and a little random question thrown in for good measure :)

If you could ask me a question, what would it be?

What's in my makeup bag

Well hello

I haven't always been that bothered with make up, well not much more than mascara really, but I have been getting into it more over the last year. I started by watching YouTube videos by make up artists and loving the way makeup can make you look so different depending on how you apply it. I also found out that the brushes you use can make SO much difference!
I like trying and using cheaper makeup - I usually buy makeup from Asda, NYX and Poundland. In fact, the majority of my daily makeup is from Poundland. It does the job, and doesn't cost me a fortune, sweet! I did invest in a decent set of brushes though for my birthday last year (blog post about them here) and they are amazing, and I use most of them every day.

Anyway, back to my make-up bag and brushes......

Now this is the make-up I wear most days, I'm quite boring and stick to the same thing, mainly as I'm used to it and it doesn't take me too long to apply :)

Starting from the back....

August Rush

Well hello

Today I wanted to share with you my review of a film I have in my DVD collection, but a film that none of my friends or family have ever heard of, let alone seen...... August Rush

****SPOILER ALERT**** I will try not to give away too much about the story of this film, but I will be describing the basis of it, so just a warning!*****

The film was released in 2007 and stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Keri Russell, Robin Williams and Freddie Highmore (Spiderwick Chronicles & Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) as 'August Rush'.

The story sees sheltered young cellist Lyla and Irish guitar player Louis meet by chance at a party and fall in love. Waking up together, they then go their separate ways, as they lead completely different lives. Little do they know that Lyla is pregnant.....
11 years later, Evan Taylor is a resident in an orphanage, but he knows in his heart that his parents are out there and still want him. He spends his days listening. Not to music, just to life. He hears music in anything and everything, a rare gift, a special gift. This leads him to leave the orphanage and try to find more music, and most importantly, his parents.
This is the start of a big adventure, meeting people, both good and bad, that will shape his life, and change it forever.

The music in the film is lovely, and with every scene change and mood, it is reflected in the sound you hear. Not to mention the music that Evan makes - he cannot play an instrument as he has never learnt, but that doesn't stop him making music! There is a scene where Evan is in an abandoned theatre, and he comes across an acoustic guitar, and it's amazing.

Now I love this film. I haven't watched it in a while, but it is a film I think you can watch anytime. It's a heart warming tale of love, music and faith. I would highly recommend this film to anyone, but especially if you like a feel good film.

Have you heard of or even seen this film?

OOTD - Skinny jeans

Well hello

Last week we went to London for a hospital appointment for my hubby, and I had on one of my go to outfits for travelling.

The top is lightweight and comfy, and wearing skinny jeans avoid my usual issue of the bottoms of my jeans getting wet as the weather was a bit pants.

I buy my jeans in New Look, and, being just over 6ft tall, I always used to find buying jeans that would be large enough around my waist AND long enough in the leg would be a nightmare! But, if anything, the jeans I get from their Inspire range are plenty long enough, too much sometimes! But I managed to pluck up the courage to buy some skinny dark red jeans in there a few months ago - and in their sale, so that cost me £6 reduced from £12.99 :-) And they are my favourite jeans at the moment! They are also nice and long, which causing a bit of ruffling around my ankles, but I like that look.

I also live in trainers..... which my mother hates! But they are comfy and go with everything :-) These ones are from George at Asda and cost me £8 - I love it! They only last me about 3-4 months until I wear a hole into the bottom and my hubby moans at me to buy a new pair as I'm complaining my feet get wet.... I also have to get them from the men's section - as I have size 10 man feet! But I'm used to it :-)

And lastly is my black long sleeved wrap/cardigan from Asda again. I got it about a year ago, but I wear it all the time.

Do you shop in supermarkets?

Poundland Haul

Well hello...
I popped into my local Poundland on Monday for a few bits and got a few good products I wanted to share with you. I got:

- 2 packs of three nail varnishes - all the same colour, but I feel that it’s cool if you love the colour, so fingers crossed!
- a new blusher - as I managed to drop mine at the weekend and it smashed
- Sally Hansen nail polish strips - looked soooo cool!

This is a blusher from the Poundland Chit Chat range and the shade is Blossom. It is really nice, nice and light and gives a lovely sheen to my cheeks, with not too much colour.
I was really excited to try the nail varnishes straight away, as I really liked both of the colours.

This colour is called Hip Hop and is from the Collection 2000 Hot Looks Fast Dry range. It is a deep orange colour. The nail varnish itself it quite opaque, so you need at least 2, if not 3 coats, but when it was on, it looked great. And it definitely ’does what it says on the tin’ and it is fast dry.

This colour is called Mint Mojo and is also from the Collection 2000 Hot Looks Fast Dry range. It is a light mint green colour. This was even more opaque than the orange one, so I needed 3 coats, I could have even done another coat really, but I have to say, this one is my favourite out of the two. I left it on after this try out and am still loving it!

I’m so excited to use this! It is from Sally Hansen and are called Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips and I got them in 810 In The Spot-Light. They are white background with black polka dots on, and I really hope they look good! Because if they do, I am going back to buy some more! You get 16 strips, and claim to ‘fit all nails’, which should be interesting for me as being plus size, my nails are bigger than most ladies. From what I can gather from the box, you simply peel off the backing, apply to your nail, then, using the nail file and buffer, shape them around the top of your nail. They also claim to last up to 10 days, which I hope is true. I plan to try these out next weekend as we have a party to go to, but I’ll do a separate review after that.
Have you ever tried these ‘nail stickers’ before?

Cleaning brushes

Well hello

Hope you are all well and looking forward to Easter :) I'm dreading having all that chocolate around the house! I'm cutting down the amount I buy the kids as they get loads from grandparents, aunts and uncles and their mum.

So today I just wanted to talk about cleaning make up brushes....

I have previously blogged about my purchase of the Real Techniques by Samantha Chapman brushes, and I have started using them more regularly now, so I felt like I needed to give them a good clean. I researched for a few days online and especially YouTube to find the best way to clean my brushes. I came across a few videos who used the same method and ingredients to make the brush cleaner, so I got all the bits and went for it :)

Firstly, you need a bowl, some extra virgin olive oil, antibacterial washing up liquid and cold water (ideally you do this at the sink). Mix together equal parts of the oil and soap in the bowl. Then, taking one brush at a time, dip it into the oil/soap mix and then add a little water. Then, using the palm of your hand, and in a circular motion, rub the mix into the brush. At this point, your should start seeing the product come out of the brush and create a foam. You just need to keep going until the foam is white and you have got all the product out.

I did my brushes all at once, so, once I had cleaned them all in the mix, I then went back through them and rinsed them all out under the cold water. You want to make sure you keep the brushes with the bristles down, just so the water doesn't go up into the handles. And the last step was to rub a little conditioner onto the bristles and then rinsed them off, which left them so shiny and smooth.

Lastly, I got rid of as much liquid from the brushes, laid hem on a towel, then folded the towel onto the top just to stop any dirt from getting onto them as they dried.

And I have to say, it has worked to well. They are so soft and clean now! I only did this yesterday and, as today is Sunday and we have stayed at home all day, I haven't used them! But I sure am looking forward to trying them out :)

How often do you clean your brushes?

Madness

Well hello

I know it's been a while since my last post, but my life went into overdrive a few weeks ago and I'm just getting bacm to normal!

My husband had to go into hospital for an operation and I was spending 12 hours a day travelling to and from the hospital and trying to be with him as much as I could. I have such an amazing network of family and friends and they really helped with the kids whilst I was with Mike. Anyway, he came home last week and is resting. He is getting better each day, but srill needs to take it easy, no matter how bored he gets!

So my life the last 2 weeks have been looking aftet him, on top of the normal kids, school and housework, so I had to put the blog on the back burner im afraid. But now I'm raring to go :-) I'll be spending tomorrow blogging and catching up with emails, and I'll have a new blog for you on Saturday, then normal service will resume on Monday :-)

Hope you are all well
